The Berlin East Asia Review (BEAR) is dedicated to critical readings of recent publications on East Asian politics, society, and history. China, Japan and Korea constitute one of the most vibrant and potent drivers in today‘s world. Attention to the dynamics of this region as well as how it is embedded into the world system is crucial to a comprehensive understanding of the path contemporary societies are taking. For this purpose, it is prerequisite to bridge persistent language barriers and to engage more deeply with analyses East Asia experts, scholars and intellectuals worldwide. In doing so, the journal works towards a deeper exchange of ideas and provides new insights for academics as well as the broader public.
