Conducting fieldwork is an enterprise that often proves to be more complicated than one initially
expects. It requires much preparation and practical wisdom which are difficult to learn from simply
surveying the literature on fieldwork methods. Furthermore, some of the issues pertaining to fieldwork
are unique to the social and cultural context of the country under examination.
