Spring Campus Conference of the University Alliance for Sustainability (with keynote speech by GEAS faculty member Cornelia Reiher)
We are delighted to announce that the fourth Spring Campus Conference of the University Alliance for Sustainability will take place from April 1-5, 2019 at Freie Universität Berlin. The Spring Campus will be on the topic: Re:search. Re:act. Re:design. 'The Future is Now: Driving Sustainable Development'. We will focus on three key topics: Energy, Food and Mobility. We offer five different research workshops that discuss innovative sustainability research from various disciplines and facilitate inter- and transdisciplinary exchange.
GEAS faculty member Cornelia Reiher will hold a keynote speech on the topic “Production, Trade and Consumption of Food in Global Contexts” on the first conference day (April 1).
Additionally, we invite contributions from PhD candidates for our two PhD Workshops running parallel from April 4-5, 2019.
Call for Abstracts
PhD Workshop I “Environmental Politics” explores questions related to the politics and conflicts that emerge around environmental issues and natural resources. The topics covered in the workshop may include a diversity of questions including the factors that drive disputes over environmental issues; the political behaviors that actors undertake to influence political outcomes such as coalition building, narrative framing contests, lobbying; the negotiation or collaboration strategies that are used to address political debates, and determinants of policy choice.
Attention by the panelists to the expansion or development of existing and new theories, as well as new empirical approaches for understanding the behaviors, processes, and outcomes of environmental politics will be encouraged.
We invite PhD candidates specializing in sustainability‐related research to apply. Abstracts (max. 500 words) for the PhD Workshop “Environmental Politics” outlining the aims and methods of individual papers should be sent to Itay Fishhendler, Itay.Fishhendler@mail.huji.ac.il and Kathryn Harrison, Kathryn.Harrison@ubc.ca. Please state your name, research topic, affiliation and full contact details. Deadline: January 31, 2019. Please find the complete Call for abstracts here.
PhD Workshop II “Sustainable Development Research – an Interdisciplinary Chance or Challenge?” offers the opportunity to discuss the complex topic of sustainability from an interdisciplinary perspective with an international group of PhD students and professors. Workshop participants develop a broader understanding of interdisciplinary research collaborations in the field of sustainable development and explore opportunities for joint interdisciplinary research projects. Participants are asked to provide a short abstract outlining their research and a reflection of how their topic interacts with one or more SDGs. Rather than presenting general overviews of sustainable development research, the workshop is interested in topical areas of individual dissertations, which should be reviewed in the light of the 17 SDGs.
