The workshop is organized by Yasemin Soysal (University of Essex), and Verena Blechinger-Talcott (GEAS). Prof. Soysal is visiting GEAS as FU Research Alumni in September 2018.

Yasemin Soysal is Professor of Sociology, and member of the Center for Migration Studies and the Center for Human Rights, University of Essex. She has previously been visiting professor at Hitotsubashi University (Tokyo), the Chinese University of Hong Kong, New York University and the Niklas Luhmann distinguished visiting chair at Bielefeld University, amongst others. Her research interests encompass Citizenship and Nation-state, National and Transnational, Transnationalization of Higher Education, International Migrations, Human Rights and Regional Integration (Europe and East Asia). Soysal's most recent publications include "Transnational Trajectories in East Asia: Nation, Citizenship, and Region" and "Why study abroad? Sorting of Chinese students across British universities."
