Scholarships for international PhD students, granted by the DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP)

GEAS was selected again by the DAAD to nominate and host up to 4 international PhD students in 2023 and 2024 (two each year). International applicants who have not been living in Germany for more than 15 months can apply. At the time of the application, the last final exam (Master Degree) should have taken place no longer than six years ago. If you plan a field study, please also submit a short work plan and schedule about the field trip (when, where, how long).

Candidates are selected in a multi-step process by GEAS and DAAD. Candidates are nominated during the selection process by the graduate school to the DAAD. The final decision is made by the DAAD.

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee of PIs at GEAS. Based on the excellence of their applications, candidates will be selected for a nomination to the final decision process of  DAAD.

The applicants who have been selected for a scholarship by a graduate school or a graduate programme must further submit a completed application form with all supporting documents via the DAAD-portal Please note that each DAAD scholarship in this programme comprises funding for up to four years.

Successful applicants will be offered a full PhD scholarship, financed by the GSSP programme of the DAAD. The DAAD offers monthly grants of about € 1.200 including health and liability insurance, as well as research allowances.
