In cooperation with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), DAAD offers the short term programme to enable highly qualified young German scientists and doctoral candidates to spend a short period of time researching at universities and selected research institutions in Japan.

Both PhD candidates (up to 12 months) and postdocs (up to 6 monts) can apply at DAAD. 

Funding is available for research projects at universities and selected research institutions in Japan. No support is provided for stays to improve language skills or to conduct studies on the country.

The JSPS scholarship includes the following benefits

•     return ticket
•     a monthly scholarship rate for doctoral students of approx. 200,000 Yen
•     a monthly scholarship rate for postdocs of approx. 362,000 Yen
•     travel health insurance
•     for stays of three months or more, a starting fee of approx. 200,000 Yen is granted
•     the funding can only be granted in modules of full months

For start of fellowship between 01.07.2020 and 30.09.2020, applications have to be submitted to DAAD by 01.01.2020

Start of fellowship between 01.10.2020 and 31.12.2020, applications have to be submitted to DAAD by 30.04.2020

Start of fellowship between 01.01.2021 and 31.03.2021, applications have to be submitted to DAAD by 31.07.2020

Start of fellowship between 01.04.2021 and 30.06.2021, applications have to be submitted to DAAD by 01.09.2020
